Power Car Corporation is preparing to introduce a Rear Wheel Drive (RWD) variant of their Gurkha model, aiming to compete with Mahindra's Thar. The Indian automaker is set to launch the RWD Gurkha in the country within the next few months. Presently, the Gurkha is available with both three-door and five-door options, equipped with a standard all-wheel drive system, placing it directly against Mahindra Thar's three-door variant.
However, Mahindra offers RWD versions of the Thar, both in gasoline and diesel, starting at a lower price point of 11,350,000 rupees (ex-showroom). In terms of aesthetics, the Gurkha's three-door RWD variant is anticipated to retain its current design. Currently, the three-door and five-door Gurkha models are priced at 1,675,000 rupees and 1,800,000 rupees respectively (all prices are ex-showroom).
Our estimation suggests that the RWD Gurkha will be priced between 1,400,000 to 1,500,000 rupees (ex-showroom), making it more accessible to consumers. This strategic move could potentially lure customers away from the longer waiting list for the rear-wheel drive Mahindra Thar, thus increasing its market share.
